In West Dorset's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Charmouth is a tranquil village with 34 listed buildings and population of 1000. It lies in the valley of the River Char in the south west corner of Dorset at the heart of the Lyme Bay coastline, which is England's first natural World Heritage Site.   Coastal hills rise steeply either side of the valley, with Golden Cap to the east being the highest point (617 ft) on the south coast. To the west is Black Ven, one of the largest landslips in Europe.
Their geological and ecological aspects make them
Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
